The Golden Horn Bay in Istanbul is one of the most beautiful and recognizable places in the city. This is the place where, at the mouth of the harbor, several centuries BC, the ancient Roman colony of Byzantium was founded, which later turned into Constantinople. The European part of the city stretches along both sides of the bay, and at sunset, the water of the bay is bathed in golden light, which gave it the name "Golden Horn". The Golden Horn is located at the point where the Bosphorus Strait flows into the Sea of Marmara. Along the shores of the inlet lie historic neighborhoods such as Galata, Balat, and Fatih, coexisting with significant historical monuments.
On the shore of the Golden Horn stands an unusual temple — the Iron Church, completely covered in iron! This Orthodox church was erected in honor of Saint Stephen and belongs to the Bulgarian community of the city. The church got its name due to its unique material — cast iron. For its construction, including the 40-meter bell tower, a total of 500 tons of iron were used.
The Balat district attracts attention with its bright, colorful houses, which have become a real magnet for numerous tourist photos. The name "Balat" comes from the Greek word "palation", which translates to "palace", due to its proximity to the Blachernae Palace. This district symbolizes tolerance and diversity, where the historical features of the city and its culture are preserved, and representatives of various religions and cultures live in harmony.
After that, our route will continue to the Asian side of Istanbul — to the Beylerbeyi Palace. There, we’ll take a short 20-minute break to admire the architecture and capture beautiful photos.
